The Guyer Wildcats will face off against the Dallas Jesuit Rangers at 7:18 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Guyer is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They claimed a resounding 40-0 victory over Rock Hill. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
One reason for the win was Guyer's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 4.5 sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece ( Logan Lokey also recorded half a sack). Paxton Wiliams got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dallas Jesuit). They were the clear victors by a 65-41 margin over Lamar on Friday. With the Rangers ahead 48-21 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Dallas Jesuit's win came from a few key players Guyer will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Shane Parker, who rushed for 122 yards and two TDs on only nine carries, and also picked up 39 receiving yards and one touchdown. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 70 yards. Another player making a difference was Beck Berry, who threw for 293 yards and three TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Dallas Jesuit proved: they limited Lamar to a paltry 1.2 yards per carry. While one picked up at least five total tackles, Tanner Krug stood above the rest. He picked up two sacks and made five total tackles. That's the most yards per carry they've posted since back in September.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Dallas Jesuit, adding 17 points to the final score. All came from Cooper McGough: he went 3-for-3 kicking field goals for nine points, and 8-for-8 kicking extra points for an additional eight.
Dallas Jesuit now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Guyer, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
Everything came up roses for Guyer against Dallas Jesuit in their previous matchup back in November of 2021, as the squad secured a 56-7 victory. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rangers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
