Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Monte Vista Mustangs walked away with it. They never let the Wildcats onto the board and left with a 2-0 victory on Saturday. Monte Vista's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last five matches.
They were led to victory by the tag-team duo of
Cole Azevedo and
James Downes, who scored both of Monte Vista's goals. The pair have combined for a total of 11 so far this season.
Monte Vista is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2-3 record this season. As for Dougherty Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 14-4-4.
