Basketball Recap: Nelsonville-York Comes Up Short

Nelsonville-York easily dispatched Wellston last Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes fell just short of the River Valley Raiders by a score of 41-38 on Thursday. The Buckeyes haven't had much luck with the Raiders recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Despite the loss, Nelsonville-York still got an impressive performance from Alayna Okulich, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 boards. That's the most rebounds Okulich has posted since back in February of 2024.

Even though they lost, Nelsonville-York smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Nelsonville-York's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for River Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Nelsonville-York will be playing in front of their home fans against Eastern at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Eastern is coming into the matchup with six straight defeats on the road, meaning Nelsonville-York will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. River Valley has already played their next contest (against Wellston), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
