The Cienega Bobcats will venture away from home to challenge the Sunnyside Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cienega will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Pueblo on Tuesday. The Bobcats blew past the Warriors 14-2. The win continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won three in a row.
Maya Fimbres was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Micaela Valenzuela was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Kay Morel, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Cienega always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Sunnyside came out on top against Tucson High Magnet School on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Blue Devils were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Badgers.
Like Cienega, Sunnyside also got a great game from a two-way player: Ashley Rosthenhausler. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, Rosthenhausler is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anyssa Pacho, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Alyssa Gonsalez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Cienega's record is now 9-10. As for Sunnyside, their record now sits at 9-6.
Cienega came out on top in a nail-biter against Sunnyside in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
