The Heritage Eagles just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Mullen Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Heritage knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Mullen likes a good challenge.
Heritage is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest loss since February 13, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against Mountain Vista, falling 85-60. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-19.
Despite the defeat, Heritage got top-tier performance from Brayden Chaney, who went 8 of 15 on his way to 18 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Trystan Rangel, who posted 11 points.
Even though they lost, Heritage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Mullen ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They secured a 64-59 W over Holy Family.
Heritage better focus on containing Mason Bonner and Ben Medina as the pair were huge in Mullen's win. Bonner dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds, while Medina went 5 for 12 en route to 16 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The contest was Bonner's fifth in a row with at least ten points.
Mullen's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.7 points per game. As for Heritage, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Heritage has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 26.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Mullen struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Heritage beat Mullen 66-58 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Will Heritage repeat their success, or does Mullen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
