The Dwyer Panthers are taking a road trip to challenge the Doral Academy Firebirds at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Dwyer is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Last Wednesday, Dwyer didn't have quite enough to beat Park Vista and fell 5-4. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Cobras recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Kayla Sejnoha made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Doral Academy put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Palm Beach Gardens a 6-0 shutout. Fans of the Firebirds have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Megan Villazon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Zoey Abdullah was excellent, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Anabela Abdullah, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Doral Academy pushed their record up to 12-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.2 runs on average over those games. As for Dwyer, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Dwyer hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Doral Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Dwyer suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Doral Academy in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Dwyer avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
