Somers and Windsor Locks are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Spartans will head out to take on the Raiders at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Somers will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Thursday, Somers beat Coventry 4-1.
Brandon Damboragian spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits.
At the plate, Andrew Czerwinski was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Josh Giupponi also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Windsor Locks hadn't done well against Granby Memorial recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Raiders skirted past the Bears 10-8. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Raiders.
The team relied heavily on Jomar Ortiz, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zavier Hunt, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Somers' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Windsor Locks, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Somers has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Windsor Locks struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Somers was able to grind out a solid win over Windsor Locks in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 9-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
