After a string of five wins, the Westland Hialeah Wildcats's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Downtown Doral by a score of 48-45. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Westland Hialeah came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while Downtown Doral is ranked 666th).
Among those leading the charge was Juan Diego Castro, who scored 24 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Downtown Doral's points. Joshua Leiva was another key contributor, scoring 8 points.
Westland Hialeah's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 5-1. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 29.67 points. As for Downtown Doral, their win bumped their record up to 1-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westland Hialeah will take on Varela at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Downtown Doral's road trip will continue as they head out to face Florida Christian at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. Florida Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Downtown Doral likes a good challenge.
