Basketball Recap: Gilbert Extends Winning Streak to Three

Gilbert had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 58-52 W against the Cesar Chavez Champions. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Champions are ranked 194th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gilbert to victory, but perhaps none more so than Adam Medina, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. Medina is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 55% in the last four games he's played. Andrew Nichols also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Gilbert was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Gilbert's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Cesar Chavez, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Gilbert will take on Tucson High Magnet School in a tournament on Thursday. As for Cesar Chavez, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Highland at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2026.
