Monte Vista Christian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in Monterey Bay - Pacific. The Mustangs vanquished King City 35-21 earlier in the week.
Monte Vista Christian extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Mustangs, 35-21. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Monte Vista Christian's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nick Matiasevich threw for 157 and one touchdown and David Hightower had 67 yards receiving. On the ground Cody Washington chipped in 97 yards. Matthew Pirtle helped Monte Vista Christian's passing attack out by catching one ball for 33 yards.
Monte Vista Christian's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Mustangs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Matiasevich has thrown for 785 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Zander Fischer-Tellez has 14 catches for 237 yards. Hugo Renteria leads the league in rushing with 415 yards.
A big matchup in Monterey Bay - Pacific this week will be when Seaside takes on North Monterey County. The Spartans are in first place, while the Condors are in fourth place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Seaside takes on North Monterey County. Alfred Avila's team has allowed 34 points this season, while the Condors have given up 45. The Spartans allowed 15 points last week as they defeated Palma.
Seaside moved up to 210 from 512 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Spartans were able to make the jump by beating the Chieftains 25-15.
