The Sumner Spartans had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past Bethel, posting a 42-14 win on the road. The result was nothing new for Sumner, who have now won four games by 27 points or more so far this season.
When it comes to explaining why Bethel lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elijah Pula. Despite the final result, he rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Sumner has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Bethel, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sumner will take on South Kitsap at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South Kitsap will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while Sumner is ranked 13th). As for Bethel, they will head out on the road to face off against Graham-Kapowsin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Graham-Kapowsin will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
