Clovis has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Goddard Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Clovis focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Clovis strolled past Lovington with points to spare, taking the game 53-37. Given Clovis' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Lovington is ranked 31st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Clovis got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kailyn Jefferson out in front who scored 15 points along with six steals. Jefferson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Zarai Lewis, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Goddard fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They enjoyed a cozy 39-21 win over Silver on Saturday.
Clovis is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. As for Goddard, their win bumped their record up to 6-11.
Everything came up roses for Clovis against Goddard in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 56-29 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Goddard's Ericca Cannon, who scored 11 points along with three steals. Now that she won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Clovis to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
