Even though the Chaputnguak Shaman scored an imposing 58 points on Thursday, the Nelson Island Islanders still came out on top. Nelson Island took their contest against Chaputnguak 69-58. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Nelson Island also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Nelson Island to victory, but perhaps none more so than Charles Maxie, who scored 27 points. Gordon Pitka was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Despite the loss, Chaputnguak still got an impressive performance from Ashton Matthew, who scored 25 points. Another player making a difference was Adrian Post, who scored 12 points.
Nelson Island's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Chaputnguak, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nelson Island won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Tournament Opponent at 2:00 p.m. on January 19th. As for Chaputnguak, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Ayaprun at 7:30 p.m.
