Basketball Recap: Ashley Ridge Falls Despite Big Games from Pj Brown and Clayton Everett Jr

Ashley Ridge has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 59-54 heartbreaker at the hands of the Pinewood Prep Panthers. If the Swamp Foxes were looking for revenge after losing 39-35 to them when the teams met on Monday, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Ashley Ridge's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Clayton Everett Jr, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 boards, and Pj Brown, who went 7 for 9 en route to 15 points and seven rebounds. That's the most boards Everett Jr has posted since back in December of 2023.

Even though they lost, Ashley Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pinewood Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jonathan Slawson, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 18 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Slawson continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tripp Eidson, who went 5 for 11 en route to 12 points in addition to eight boards and three blocks.

Ashley Ridge's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-5. As for Pinewood Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ashley Ridge will host West Ashley at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Ashley Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 69 points per game this season. Pinewood Prep has already played their next game (against Palmetto Christian Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
