Watson Chapel is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Warren, falling 19-0.
Meanwhile, Monticello came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. Considering the Billies have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Alaina Lyle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Monticello got a massive performance out of Libby Kingston, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Bliss Becker, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.
Monticello always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hamburg only posted an OBP of .250.
Monticello pushed their record up to 11-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Watson Chapel, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.
Watson Chapel suffered a grim 23-1 defeat to Monticello in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
