Softball Recap: Midway Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Harriman, Midway was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with a 9-6 win over the Loudon Redskins. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Green Wave also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2022.

Kiersten Ruffner made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Ruffner was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Midway let Chloe Jarnigan and Kyker Johnston run wild. Jarnigan scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Johnston went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. The dominant performance also gave Jarnigan a new career-high in doubles (two). Taylor Walker also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Midway kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.

Midway's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-11. As for Loudon, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Midway will head out to face off against Coalfield at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Green Wave surely won't give up without a fight. As for Loudon, they will head out on the road to square off against South-Doyle at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cherokees' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Redskins' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
