Baseball Game Preview: McPherson Bullpups vs. Augusta Orioles

McPherson is 9-1 against Augusta since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. McPherson will host Augusta at 4:00 p.m. Augusta took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on McPherson, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, McPherson made easy work of Valley Center and carried off an 11-1 win. That's two games straight that the Bullpups have won by exactly ten runs.

Ian Razak was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over six innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Carter Allen and Carter Bengtson did most of the damage at the plate: Allen went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double, while Bengtson scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those four RBI gave Allen a new career-high. Brody Seidl was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

McPherson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Center only posted an OBP of .261.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Augusta was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They came up short against Tonganoxie, falling 8-2.

McPherson has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 12.5 runs this season. As for Augusta, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

McPherson took their win against Augusta in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0. Does McPherson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Augusta turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
