The Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos will square off against the West Lafayette Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lafayette Jefferson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Lafayette Jefferson made easy work of Marion and carried off a 17-6 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bronchos.
Andi Mooney made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Mooney was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Lafayette Jefferson let Maya Thomas and Evy Pitt run wild. Thomas went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Pitt went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Pitt has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Rilee Clifton, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Lafayette Jefferson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They are 10-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, West Lafayette fell victim to Logansport and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They fell just short of the Berries by a score of 1-0. The Red Devils just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Molly Mansfield spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits.
On the hitting side, West Lafayette saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kerrigan Gooden, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
West Lafayette's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Lafayette Jefferson, their victory bumped their record up to 14-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Lafayette Jefferson hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like West Lafayette struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Lafayette Jefferson couldn't quite get it done against West Lafayette in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Bronchos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
