The Breaux Bridge Tigers will venture away from home to challenge the Mamou Demons at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mamou will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Breaux Bridge extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over Abbeville.
Zoey Simoneaux made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracie Hebert, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last ten games. Another player making a difference was Calie Chiasson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.
Breaux Bridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .758. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .600 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Mamou got the win against Ville Platte on Tuesday by a conclusive 14-3. The victory continues a trend for the Demons in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won seven in a row.
Danilynn Landreneau was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Sarah Lacoste was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
Mamou pushed their record up to 9-12-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Breaux Bridge, their record now sits at 9-14.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Breaux Bridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .529. However, it's not like Mamou struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Breaux Bridge might still be hurting after the 17-4 defeat they got from Mamou in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
