On Friday, The Bell Griffins faced the McKinley Tech Trainers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Bell blew past McKinley Tech, posting a 57-0 victory at home. The result was nothing new for Bell, who have now won five matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
Bell found their leader in underclassman Antonio` Washington, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Washington was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Chris Palmer was in the mix as well, providing Bell with three touchdowns.
The victory was the third in a row for Bell, bringing their record for this year to 7-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 McKinley Tech and 2-5-1 Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 32.6% over those games). As for McKinley Tech, their loss was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their record down to 1-8.
Bell will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Anacostia at 6:00 p.m. on November 9th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in District of Columbia (Anacostia is ranked 14th, while Bell is ranked tenth). As for McKinley Tech, they will head out on the road to face off against Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Phelps Architecture, Construction & Engineering is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
