The Northwest Rankin Cougars's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Ridgeland Titans at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Northwest Rankin can now show off 13 landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Oak Grove 68-44. Given Northwest Rankin's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Warriors are ranked 145th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Ridgeland had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They really took it to Vicksburg for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-26 victory at home. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Ridgeland had established a 31 point advantage.
Ridgeland's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Raniya Fisher, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, and Eva Young, who scored 20 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Young hasn't dropped below four steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Laci Buchanan, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Northwest Rankin's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-10. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.1 points per game. As for Ridgeland, their victory bumped their record up to 14-10.
Northwest Rankin didn't have too much breathing room in their game against the Titans in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 53-49 win. Will Northwest Rankin repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
