The Brackett Tigers will take on the Leakey Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Brackett will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Charlotte, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Tigers came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 14-11 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Brackett got a massive performance out of Alianna Valdez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two triples, and three runs. Those two triples gave Valdez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Calista Perez, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Brackett kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Leakey). Everything went their way against Sabinal on Tuesday as they made off with a 23-14 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
Kourtney Rodriguez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. Rodriguez was even better at the plate, going 2-for-6 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Angela Lopez was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Kaylee Preece was another key player, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with three stolen bases and five runs.
Leakey's victory bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Brackett, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Brackett has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .574. However, it's not like Leakey struggles in that department as they've averaged .469. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Brackett might still be hurting after the 17-4 loss they got from Leakey in their previous meeting back in February of 2025. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
