The Hobart Brickies are taking a road trip to take on the Illiana Christian Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hobart has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight losses, while Illiana Christian will come in with three straight wins.
Lowell hit Hobart with a eight-run seventh inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Brickies lost 12-1 to the Red Devils.
Ladan Weinman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, while Illiana Christian put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Hammond Bishop Noll. The Vikings narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Warriors 2-0.
Not much got past Cayden Petersen, who gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Hammond Bishop Noll off the board.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lydia VanderWoude, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya VanderWoude, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Illiana Christian's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Hobart, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.
Both Hobart and Illiana Christian just can't seem to miss. The Brickies have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Illiana Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hobart suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Illiana Christian in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Brickies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
