The Mayer Wildcats's game last Monday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They put the hurt on North Phoenix Preparatory Academy with a sharp 49-29 win. That's another feather in the cap for Mayer, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Danni McCann was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 32 points and 20 steals. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Mayer's points. Another player making a difference was Taylor McCann, who scored six points along with eight steals and five rebounds.
Ellaina Wakeham and Sabrina Daniel certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Wakeham scored four points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks, while Daniel scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Wakeham has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexandra Price, who scored three points along with 12 rebounds and four blocks.
Even though they lost, North Phoenix Preparatory Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Mayer's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-13-1. As for North Phoenix Preparatory Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-18 record this season.
Mayer and the Frogs will face off at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Salome will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive. North Phoenix Preparatory Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
