The Venice Indians scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 82-28 blowout they got on the road against Estero. With that win, Venice brought their scoring average up to 51.6 points per game.
It was another big night for Riley Martin, who scored 27 points. Those 27 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Taylor Orris, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Estero saw an underclassman step up: Amiya Lewis scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. The match was Lewis' tenth in a row with at least ten points.
Estero struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Venice racked up 27 assists.
Venice's win bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Estero, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3.
Venice will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Cypress Lake at 9:00 a.m. on January 4th. Cypress Lake will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while Venice is ranked 95th). Estero won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Gateway at 12:20 p.m. on January 4th. Hopefully Gateway focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Wednesday.
