The Deer Creek-Mackinaw Chiefs will head out to square off against the Casey-Westfield Warriors at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Deer Creek-Mackinaw is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw barely beat Princeville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Chiefs never let the Princes get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Addyson Carithers was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Knowles, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Casey-Westfield entered their tilt with Danville on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over the Vikings. Considering the Warriors have won 20 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Goble made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucy Moore, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one double, and one RBI. Gabriela Frye was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Casey-Westfield, their record now sits at 24-3.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Deer Creek-Mackinaw hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .348. However, it's not like Casey-Westfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .452. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw couldn't quite finish off Casey-Westfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Chiefs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
