The Cardinal Mooney Cougars entered their tilt with the Sarasota Sailors with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Cardinal Mooney walked away with a 51-43 win over Sarasota on Friday. Given Cardinal Mooney's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Sarasota is ranked 70th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cardinal Mooney to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bri Behn, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. Behn continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kali Barrett, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Several Sailors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Paisley Binswanger, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Sofi Miller, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Cardinal Mooney has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for Sarasota, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-8.
Cardinal Mooney will square off against Bradenton Christian at TBD on Friday. Hopefully Bradenton Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday. As for Sarasota, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Venice at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th. Averaging 55.91 points so far this season, Venice's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Sarasota better be ready for a challenge.
