Ruidoso (N.M.) had a big 28-point first quarter on Saturday, sealing a 55-0 victory over West Las Vegas (Las Vegas, N.M.).
The Warriors scored on a touchdown run by
Parker Johnson, a defensive touchdown, a Johnson touchdown run and a touchdown pass by
Bryce Pompos to
Dillon Pietch in the quarter.
The lead that Ruidoso took on a touchdown run by Johnson with 10:00 to go in the first quarter stood up for the duration of the game, as neither team managed to score in the second half.
A 28-point first quarter set the table for RHS, which coasted the rest of the way for the victory.
The Warriors' most effective player was Johnson. The sophomore wide receiver ran for two touchdowns and caught two touchdowns.
When the two teams played each other last season, Ruidoso came away with a 51-22 victory.
With the win RHS extended its winning streak to three games.
West Las Vegas (0-3) will play a 3A District 2 game against Pojoaque Valley next week, while Ruidoso (3-0) will take on Hatch Valley in a non-conference game.
