The team also got some help courtesy of Brendan Phillips, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
On Sparta's side, Zach Bodeker was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Braden Reinhardt, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Sparta now has a winning record of 2-1.
While New Athens had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
