Bend is a perfect 6-0 against Caldera since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Lava Bears will face off against Caldera at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Monday, Bend needed a bit of extra time to put away West Albany. They won by a run and slipped past the Bulldogs 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lava Bears have posted since June 1, 2024.
The team relied heavily on MacKenzie Shaughnessy, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Cassidy Sandgren also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Shaughnessy wasn't the only one making solid contact: Bend kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The Lava Bears are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Caldera). They blew past South Salem 23-3 on Friday. With that win, Caldera brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.
Morgan Voll was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Elle Morton was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4.
Caldera's victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-7. As for Bend, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Bend hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Caldera struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Bend's way against Caldera in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Bend made off with a 15-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lava Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
