The Howell Highlanders were the 53-44 winner over the Canton Chiefs when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Howell took a 48-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Canton. While losing is never fun, Howell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Canton is ranked 35th).
Canton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bradley Eziuka, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. Alexander Persinger was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Howell's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-5. As for Canton, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Howell will take on Salem at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Salem focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday. As for Canton, they will be playing at home against Brighton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brighton is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
