Two dominant signal callers in Tayt Snellgrove and Stanton Beverly are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. After each having a week off, the Valwood Valiants and Frederica Academy will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Valwood blew past Brookwood, posting a 44-9 win. The victory continues a trend for the Valiants in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won three in a row.

Valwood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kamari Jackson, who rushed for 53 yards and three scores on only five carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Jackson a new career-high. Another rusher making a difference was Brycen Wetherington, who rushed for 89 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries.
Valwood's run defense was locked in: Brookwood could only muster 3.4 yards per carry. While four picked up at least four total tackles, Jaylan Abernathy stood above the rest. He made four total tackles and snagged an interception. Valwood's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.4 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 6.9 on average over their last five games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Frederica Academy). They simply couldn't be stopped last Friday as they easily beat St. Andrew's 49-16. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-8.
Frederica Academy found their leader in sophomore Beverly, who rushed for 46 yards and three TDs, and also threw for 208 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes. Braxton Sykes showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 66 yards.
Valwood's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Frederica Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Valwood has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 163.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Frederica Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 183 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Valwood strolled past Frederica Academy when the teams last played back in August by a score of 33-14. Will the Valiants repeat their success, or do Frederica Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
