The West Mesa Mustangs will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the La Cueva Bears at 2:00 p.m. West Mesa will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
West Mesa scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 87-66 margin over Sandia. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Meanwhile, La Cueva faced Eldorado in a battle between two of the state's top teams. La Cueva walked away with a 75-62 win over Eldorado on Wednesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
La Cueva's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Chavez, who scored 25 points along with four steals. Chavez hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Dyer, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.
West Mesa's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for La Cueva, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
West Mesa beat La Cueva 63-55 in their previous matchup back in January. Does West Mesa have another victory up their sleeve, or will La Cueva turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
