St. Bernard had lost seven straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 4-16 to make it eight. They fell 6-2 to the Killingly Trailblazers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trailblazers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-2 back in April.

Anabelle Wenzel was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Wenzel wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aurianna Thomas, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
As for Killingly, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games.
On Killingly's side, Danielle Veillette spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits.
At the plate, Jayden Durand and Loretta Lannon did most of the damage at the plate: Durand went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Lannon went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Kairah Guertin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Coming up, St. Bernard will look to defend their home field on Monday against Coginchaug Regional at 4:30 p.m. As for Killingly, they will head out to challenge Rocky Hill at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Terriers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Trailblazers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
