SAN JOSE, Calif. -
Santa Teresa (San Jose, Calif.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 11 points, drop to four before the final whistle blew on a 24-20 victory over
Willow Glen (San Jose, Calif.).
After taking the lead on a field goal by
Peter Fuccella in the first quarter, the Saints led 10-6 at the half.
Santa Teresa expanded its lead to 11 points entering the fourth quarter. ST's lone score in the quarter came on a
Austin Richelle touchdown pass to
Christian Paolinetti.
The final score was a stunner, as the Saints was ranked No. 558 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for California, far below the Rams' spot at No. 498.
Josh Landers played well for Willow Glen. The sophomore wide receiver threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
Paolinetti was the top performer for Santa Teresa. The senior tight end caught three touchdowns. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
ST got revenge for last year's 21-13 loss to WG with the victory.
Willow Glen fell to Piedmont Hills last week, 27-21. The victory was a step in the right direction for the Saints, which was coming off a 26-7 defeat at the hands of Leland in its previous game.
Santa Teresa (4-5) will play a Mount Hamilton game against Independence next week, while Willow Glen (3-6) will take on Pioneer also in a Mount Hamilton game.
