Baseball Recap: Tom Bean Comes Up Short

Tom Bean dropped their record down to 12-7 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Honey Grove Warriors by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Tomcats have suffered since March 18th.

Cash Linder put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Tom Bean's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't).

Linder wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Keaton Reed, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

As for Honey Grove, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 14-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

Like Tom Bean, Honey Grove also got a great game from a two-way player: Jarrmez Daniels. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Daniels was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Levi Beavers, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Brody Mahan, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Tom Bean didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 10-9 win against Chisum on the 12th. As for Honey Grove, they have also already played their next contest, a 17-2 victory against Dodd City on the 15th.
