The Overton Wolverines had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They snuck past Germantown with a 44-40 victory. Given Overton's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Germantown is ranked 200th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Overton found their leader in underclassman Kierra Baldwin, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 10 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alexandria Clemmons, who scored 14 points along with 3 steals.
Overton's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Germantown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.
Overton will be playing in front of their home fans against Mitchell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Mitchell focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Tuesday. As for Germantown, they will head out on the road to face off against Kirby at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
