Even though the Petal Panthers have not done well against the Brandon Bulldogs recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Petal snuck past Brandon with a 64-59 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Brandon had strong showings from Braylon Barnes, who scored 27 points along with eight rebounds, and Elijah Morey, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Morey also grabbed two+ steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Braelyn Bailey, who scored seven points.
Petal has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season. As for Brandon, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.
Petal will head out on the road to take on Northwest Rankin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Northwest Rankin is ranked 98th, while Petal is ranked 83rd). As for Brandon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pearl at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
