The Lipscomb Academy Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They fell 63-51 to Pope John Paul II. While losing is never fun, Lipscomb Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while Pope John Paul II is ranked fifth).
Pope John Paul II got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Trey Pearson out in front who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds. Pearson is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Fred Bailey, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Lipscomb Academy dropped their record down to 13-12 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Pope John Paul II, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lipscomb Academy will face off against Brentwood Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Pope John Paul II, they and Christ Presbyterian Academy will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
