Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger is 0-10 against Leo since April of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. The Saints will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lions at 5:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger sitting on three straight wins and Leo on four.
While Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran on Wednesday.

Avianna Vasquez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Genna Renbarger, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Abby Gillespie was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Leo). Their pitchers stepped up to hand New Haven a 16-0 shutout on Wednesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Lions with their most commanding win of the season.
Luci Schott made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Schott was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Moore, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Nighswander, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Leo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Haven only posted an OBP of .125.
Leo pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Leo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger suffered a grim 18-3 defeat to Leo in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Saints have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
