Donovan is 2-8 against Gardner-South Wilmington since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Donovan Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Gardner-South Wilmington Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Donovan has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Donovan fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Iroquois West last Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 65-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raiders. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Brendan Henneike, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Griffen Walters, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds.
Gardner-South Wilmington posted their biggest victory since December 12, 2023 on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Illinois Lutheran 72-40 at home. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-21.
Donovan bumped their record down to 6-12 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Gardner-South Wilmington, their win bumped their record up to an identical 6-12.
Donovan beat Gardner-South Wilmington 68-61 in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Will Donovan repeat their success, or does Gardner-South Wilmington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
