Softball Recap: Seaside Comes Up Short

Seaside had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Pajaro Valley Grizzlies by a score of 19-17. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-7 back in March.

Aaliyah Washington was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Maryjane Le made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Le is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Cameron Valencia, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.

As for Pajaro Valley, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since March 19th.

On Pajaro Valley's side, they got a massive performance out of Nadia Renteria, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Renteria a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Virginia Escobar, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Seaside has already played their next game, a 15-3 loss against Marina on the 25th. As for Pajaro Valley, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Santa Catalina at 4:30 p.m.
