It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Clay had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the St. John's Jesuit Titans. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Landon Eversman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Bryce Besgrove was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alex Goetz, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Clay's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-9. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for St. John's Jesuit, they now have a losing record of 9-10.
As of now, neither Clay nor the Titans have any future games scheduled.
