Alexandria is 1-9 against Southside since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Alexandria Valley Cubs will head out on the road to face off against the Southside Panthers. Alexandria will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while Southside is ranked 31st).
Last Tuesday, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Alexandria had to settle for a 41-39 defeat against Glencoe. Alexandria has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Southside has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 21 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 60-26 win over Sardis at home. With Southside ahead 33-13 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Southside got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Madison Shaw out in front who scored 16 points along with five assists. The game was Shaw's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Grace Anne rose, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Alexandria's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Southside, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
Alexandria came up short against Southside in their previous matchup back in February, falling 42-33. Can Alexandria avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
