The Watauga Pioneers pushed their score all the way to 73 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 82-73 to West Caldwell. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Friday (72), Watauga still had to take the loss.
Loss or not, Watauga got some senior leadership from Jackson Pryor who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds and Wyatt Kohout who scored 22 points along with 9 rebounds. Pryor scored a full 26% of Watauga's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Railey, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Watauga were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Caldwell only racked up 21.
Jordan Patterson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for West Caldwell, scoring 35 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. The game was Patterson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jay Maxwell, who scored 20 points along with 6 rebounds.
Watauga's defeat dropped their record down to 2-1. As for West Caldwell, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Watauga will head out on the road to face off against Mountain Heritage at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Mountain Heritage focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Tuesday. As for West Caldwell, they will be playing in front of their home fans against South Caldwell at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. South Caldwell will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 196th, while West Caldwell is ranked 14th).
