Centennial is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Doniphan-Trumbull is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Centennial Broncos will take on the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two weeks ago, Centennial strolled past Raymond Central with points to spare, taking the game 45-31. Given Centennial's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Raymond Central is ranked 245th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Centennial's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alex Hirschfeld, who scored 11 points along with two blocks. That's the first time this season that Hirschfeld posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Devin Slawnyk, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Doniphan-Trumbull can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They really took it to Centura for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-40 win at home. With Doniphan-Trumbull ahead 40-12 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
The match pitted two dominant players against one another in Jack Poppe and Barrett Fries. Poppe had a great game and dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Meanwhile, Fries was balling out in the loss, scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Centennial has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Doniphan-Trumbull, their victory bumped their record up to 11-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Centennial have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 24.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Doniphan-Trumbull struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 28.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
