The Columbia Capitals will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Newberry Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Columbia comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Two weeks ago, Columbia took a serious blow against Richland Northeast, falling 59-12. Columbia was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 55-18, which was the final score in Newberry's tilt against Clinton on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Newberry has scored all season.
Columbia's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Newberry, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.
Columbia didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Newberry when the teams last played back in January of 2022, but they still walked away with a 47-41 win. Will Columbia repeat their success, or does Newberry have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
