The Leake Central Gators pushed their score all the way to 71 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a serious blow against Choctaw Central, falling 100-71. While losing is never fun, Leake Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while Choctaw Central is ranked eighth).
Among those leading the charge was Clemons Zylier, who scored 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayce Sam, who scored 15 points.
Leake Central's defeat was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-12. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.1 points per game. As for Choctaw Central, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-5.
Leake Central will head out on the road to face off against Scott Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Choctaw Central, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome West Lauderdale at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. West Lauderdale has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 494 points over their last seven matchups.
