The Charleston Math & Science Riptide's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 49-41 to St. John. Charleston Math & Science has not had much luck with the Islanders recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the loss, Charleston Math & Science still got an impressive performance from Dalailyn Reed, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Reed has scored all season. Peyton Webb was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
St. John's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Daeshia Buford, who scored 19 points along with six steals. Buford is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least four every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kaniya Smith, who scored ten points along with eight assists and five rebounds.
Charleston Math & Science dropped their record down to 2-17 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for St. John's, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
Charleston Math & Science will head out on the road to face off against the Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Cross presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Riptide in South Carolina (the Trojans are ranked 91st, while the Riptide are ranked 236th). As for St. John's, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Baptist Hill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday.
