Even though the Putnam County Midgets have not done well against the Milan Wildcats recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Putnam County blew past Milan 71-46. The win was just business as usual for Putnam County, who after three games remain undefeated this season.
When it comes to explaining why Milan lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ahmet Niasse. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Niasse scored a full 39.1% of Milan's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jared Gonzalez was another key contributor, scoring 9 points.
Putnam County's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Milan, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Putnam County will square off against Schuyler County at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Milan will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South Shelby at 7:30 p.m. on January 26, 2024.
